The National Revolutionary Faction and the National Autonomous Zone

The National Revolutionary Faction was a U.K. group dedicated to carrying on the struggle against the British dictatorship.  For the purpose of this document, and in honor to the brave men and women that made up it's ranks, the NRF is considered as a prototype for any revolutionary group whose aims are in line with the principles of National Anarchism (NA) and the territory (National Autonomous Zone) of a group of people to live their lives as such.

Contrary to the misperceptions of what anarchism looks like in practice, the essential task for the success of the Anarchist Project means that people are not allowed to do anything they want.  This is where the NRF comes in.

The NRF must be responsible for all aspects of it's own logistics, social services, base areas, training, and defense of the NAZ.  This can take place in a myriad of ways the details of which will be unique to the local situation.  The general strategic activity could be considered as Maoist while the overall aim should be to deploy as a network centric 4th generation warfare (4GW) paradigm.

In general the NRF response towards dispute resolution should be deference to the Gild Syndicate and should operate on the principle of using non lethal force (unless otherwise unavoidable to protect the community) for permanent NAZ residents and authorized visitors.  Non residents and authorized visitors should be engaged only for defensive reasons.  Unauthorized visitors in the NAZ should be provided to the NRF for a visit to customs to ascertain their intentions and reason/terms for entry.  The NRF should be authorized to engage criminal (non petty crime), gang related, and hostile forces as enemy combatants.

Application for membership to the NRF can be based upon any number of qualifications (which this document will not make stipulations upon) but invitation, volunteering, merit, ad hoc, or conscription are some possibilities.  Members should be selected on the skills they bring to the NRF, discipline, trustworthiness, and willingness to put themselves in harms way.

In relation to the NAZ, it is the duty of NRF forces to establish the security of the National Territory.  It's preliminary role while co-existing with the State will be one of preparation and intelligence work that will enable it's members to carry out their tasks quickly and professionally when the time for activation arrives.  This usually entails regular training activity and often a daily effort to achieve the level of proficiency needed to be successful.

When a sufficiently large area has come into the hegemony of the NAZ certain measures identifying NAZ residents from non residents should be considered based upon the will and inclination of NAZ residents.  While NAZ theory does not stipulate what symbols should or should not be used the author encourages potential NAZ residents to democratically decide on a symbolism (invented with their own creativity) that has not been used in past struggles or by previous governments.  To use the symbols of previous governments would invite the same outcome of failed States we are opposed to reinventing.

Along with this, major routes of ingress and egress should have established permanent outposts.  In open areas large billboards could be utilized to direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic to these outposts for customs and provide reason for entry.  The NRF would be a sovereign representative of the territory and empowered to allow or deny access to the territory based on criteria agreed by NAZ residents (a collective of anarch's) and the NRF.  Other stipulations may be enforced such as escorts for the visitors should be available to the NRF commander.

Some of these outposts will certainly be extensive.  Reference has been made elsewhere of the Vietnamese Military Fortress Villages which have a proven track record against forces much larger than their own (see Sino Vietnam 1979 war for details or the books of H. John Poole for reference).

The question often comes up of how large should a NAZ be?  Although a large part of the answer must be deferred to population density and ecology it is expected to start small, on a farm or even a country house.  When the number of residents increases it's the authors view that the NRF should project it's influence as far as is prudent with the local situation but a good milestone to aim for would be the old county boundaries.

Matters of alliances and diplomacy should be undertaken by the Gild Syndicate in conjunction with feedback provided at NAZ community meetings.  Community meetings should be organized in some form of rule of order.

In periods of national security crisis,  a temporarily increase in the capability of the NRF should be considered with neighboring tribes and NAZ communities.  Besides alliances, a model that has proven successful in previous centuries is authorizing a modern version of the Landsknecht ('servant of the country').

In summary this document details how the NAZ would defend itself and operate some aspects of community affairs that are in line with the principles of anarchism and the best interest of the community it serves.  This article is not the final doctrine on the subject but one way among others on picturing what National Anarchy look like in practice.

Interesting article, though the "brave men and women" line seems to be pushing it a tad. So far as anyone outside of the UK knows the NRF was 1000 fold, though that may have been the case, "where are they now"? If the NRF was such a revolutionary council or whatnot that we all should take lessons from then A) Why was it disbanded? If it was the way to be, why disband it and then 5 years later say that we need to go back to it when its founder seems to have gotten beyond it? and B) Where are all "the brave men and women" that you mentioned from it at now?

Thomas,

Those are good questions that I do not have an answer for. The term NRF was chosen here for a standard nomenclature. Most recently Troy Southgate has promoted preparations to be organized stealthy and out of sight of the State, remain invisible to the community, and make an income off the books until full self-sufficiency can be reached. Our objective in California is to operate more openly and promote these ideas to all people who would benefit from them.

For revolution,
BANA

I like the Californian plans of organised militancy and being fully prepared for any form of economic collapse. I also like the ideas of Troy - self-sufficiency, community building and entryism. All of these ideas and more must be incorporated in to a revolutionary plan to make the most of what we have, provide for our folk and build something from the future crisis.

All of the strategies I have read have had their pro's (and cons) and I am definitely forming my own plans and ambitions based on this. Well done BANA!
